"History of the Friends Organization"

The DeWeese Rudd Museum Group was formed in 1993 after a general changing of the guard for the museum took place and the Fine Arts Council, Center for the Arts, turned the management of the museum over to the DeWeese Rudd Group.  The ensuing years proved that the funding options of the group were very limited, and therefore a severe breach in the governing board of the museum occurred.

In 2004 a new board was seated that would replace the DeWeese Rudd Group as a Friends of the Museum and History Center, only responsible for a "cheerleading" position, in as much as this group  was in a support mode, rather than a financial responsibility position.

The New board was seated and took the name Friends of the Museum and History Center, they  began fund-raising efforts for exhibits and events that the museum staff put forth as projects they wished to have promoted.

The creation of a Newsletter, a Website, and other public access to the museum events was instituted.  The first big project of the Friends was the restoration of the four Mountain Buffalo in the Amick Gallery Diorama that were in very delicate condition, and fast deteriorating.  This very important project was completed and paid for at the end of 2010, with donations and dues.  The Bison/buffalo are now in excellent condition, and a prideful part of the museum exhibits in the Amick Gallery.

Please join the Friends in their efforts to continue to support the historic artifacts and documents of the Fremont County area.

We support the mission and purposes of the Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center and promote awareness of our heritage.
